Brand Brewery

In 1340, the Netherlands' oldest brewery opened its doors in the beautiful village of Wijlre, Limburg. The brewery had direct access to its own water source—a significant advantage, as it allowed them to meet the growing demand for beer. Around this time, there was an exclusive right to produce and sell beer in and around Wijlre, known as the banpanhuisrecht (ban brewery right). When Napoleon ended this monopoly, Frederik Edmond Brand purchased the banpanhuis in 1871. Since then, it has been known as the Brand Brewery.
